Financial Planner

This role supports the planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial management activities. This role is crucial for optimizing financial performance, enabling informed financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare multi year Business Plan financials (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Deliver month end and quarter end reports in line with IFRS/MFRS and PSC requirements.
  • Coordinate forecasts with subsidiaries and business teams, including cost and working capital planning.
  • Support corporate reporting, annual financial statements, and regulatory submissions.
  • Track financial KPIs and provide variance analysis and performance insights for management.
  • Conduct financial analysis to reflect project, regulatory, and market changes; work with asset and commercial teams to optimise outcomes.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, internal controls, and support investment evaluations, risk, tax, and audit activities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Professional certification (CFA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA) is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of MFRS/IFRS and Malaysian PSC frameworks; able to prepare full financial statements.
  • Proficient in Excel, ERP systems, and FP&A tools.
  • Experience in upstream oil & gas, petrochemicals, or related industries (3–5 years).
  • Strong analytical skills in forecasting, variance analysis, budgeting, and cost allocation.
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder management.
  • Detail‑oriented, proactive, and able to manage tight deadlines across multiple workstreams

Internship Program

Our Internship Program aims to equip undergraduates with hands-on learning opportunities and foundational work experience within the energy sector.

Internship placements are currently offered across the following strategic departments:

  • Human Resources
  • Corporate Communication
  • Finance / Accounting

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree from accredited local or overseas higher learning institutions where internship is a mandatory part of course completion in disciplines relevant to SMJE’ business needs.
  • Minimum duration for internship is three (3) months and maximum of eight (8) months.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent.
