For Upstream investments, we have the right to negotiate free carry of exploration expenses for all high-quality new exploration assets.
We will also participate in profitable green energy opportunities in partnership with reputable operators of proven track records and ESG leadership, as and when appropriate.
All financial investments must meet stringent internal profitability target, ESG & risk tolerance.

PRODUCING PSC

Samarang PSC

SMJ Energy has a 50% participating interest in the Samarang Production Sharing Contract (PSC). The PSC consists of seven oil and gas producing fields, namely Samarang, Samarang Kechil, Sumandak, Zuhal, Alab, Erb West and Kinarut, and two oil and gas receiving terminals in Kota Kinabalu and Labuan. Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd is the operator of this PSC and holds the remaining 50% interest of the PSC.

EXPLORATION PSC

SB409 PSC

SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) and E&P Malaysia Venture (EPMV) on the back-in option for up to 20% participating interest in the Block SB409 Production Sharing Contract (PSC). Situated offshore southwest Sabah covering 14,556sq km of area, Block SB409 PSC was awarded to PCSB and EPMV by national oil company PETRONAS during the 2022 Malaysia Bidding Round (MBR).

SB403 PSC

SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) and E&P Malaysia Venture (EPMV) on the back-in option for up to 20% participating interest in the Block SB403 Production Sharing Contract (PSC). Situated offshore north of Sabah covering 10, 256 sq km of area, Block SB403 PSC was awarded to PCSB and EPMV by national oil company PETRONAS during the 2022 Malaysia Bidding Round (MBR).

SB306A & SB306B

SMJ Energy secured 7.5% Free-carry Participating Interest (PI) from INPEX in SB306A and SB306B Exploration PSC in the MBR2024 PSC Signing Ceremony held on 17th February 2025. In a parallel development, SMJ Energy was also given a 7.5% Back-In Right option by PCSB for the two exploration blocks to be exercised on completion of Minimum Work Commitments or on Declaration of Commercial Discovery whichever comes first.

LNG 9

SMJ Energy has a 10% equity interest in PETRONAS LNG9 Sdn Bhd, which operates LNG train-9 plant within the Bintulu LNG complex.

Sabah Ammonia Urea Plant (SAMUR)

SMJ Energy has a 25% equity interest Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd which operates the largest single train integrated ammonia and urea production complex in Southeast Asia, which is located in Sipitang, Sabah.

Through the acquisition of Sabah International Petroleum Sdn Bhd in October 2023, our Services portfolio are principally the provision of floating production storage and offloading (“FPSO”) and floating storage and offloading (“FSO”) systems to national oil companies in the South East Asia region.
Backed by years of experience with established capabilities since 2014, we are also providing operation and maintenance services to offshore facilities as well as onshore terminal and plants. We currently own and operate 1 FPSO and 1 FSO named FPSO Ratu Nusantara and FSO Ratu Songkhla respectively as well as providing the operations and maintenance for both.

Safety is Our Culture

This belief has been behind the group’s insistence in training the staff to uphold the core values of quality, health and safety, along with applicable environmental laws, regulations and internal standards.

 

The group efforts have been recognised through the awards given for adherence to Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) regulations. SIP’s client, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, which works with various suppliers, has acknowledged the group’s high standards of QHSE Practices by awarding the Good Performance in 3 Years sustaining of Free Lost Time Injuries/ Lost Time Accident (LTI/LTA) achievement in MASA Field 1999-2002; the Health, Safety and Environment Award 2006; and the HSE Performance Award 2006/2007.

 

In the last quarter of 2007, the group’s success was once again recognised when it was presented with an award of Safety Achievement for completing three years without LTI, and again in 2008 with the Safety Performance Award when the lifting crew successfully and safely lifted 5 million barrels of condensate. Both awards were presented by Carigali Hess Operating Company Sdn Bhd.

 

In continuing delivering and sustaining excellent QHSE Performance, the group was recently recognised by CPOC-PTTEPI with a HSE Recognition Excellence Performance Platinum Award for its business operation of FSO Ratu Songkhla for 3 consecutive years; FY 2018, FY 2019 and FY2021.

 

Apart from that, the SIP group has also won significant awards for group performance in safety and other HSE values, thus earning the group a reputation as a contractor that emphasises a “Safety First Culture” as a way of life.

 

It is SIP’s highest priority to adhere to the group’s safety requirements and policies as it strongly believes that past achievements do not guarantee future success. Track Record


The FPSO Perintis is a proven FPSO with Process Topsides systems including Separation, Gas Export and Gas Lift, Water Injection, Produced Water, gas fired Power Generation and relevant support utilities.


Perintis was contracted to PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd for their MASA field for fourteen years, five years more than its original design life, only leaving the field when field production dropped to a low level. During its time at field the FPSO performed better than required having minimal downtime. On the completion of the contract in October 2013, FPSO Perintis has been demobilised from site.


FSO Puteri Cakerawala is our record with this FSO demonstrates our versatility as services provider. The FSO is owned by Carigali Hess Operating Company and has been operational since 2004 in Block A-18 of the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area. O&M was provided by our subsidiary, from 2004 to 2012. The O&M team excelled at their tasks so much that the initial contracted term of three years (two years firm and one year optional) was renewed for another three-year term, with an option for a two-year extension that was exercised.
